You get Face experience for doing missions for civilians. You get Cop and Triad for doing main missions, as well as side missions for both. You get 3 experience bars: Cop, Triad, and Face experience. Eventually you can steal them out of cops trunks/boots. You can find them in either lock boxes, (basically hidden packages), use them after a mission ends, or pick them up off of dead gangsters or cops, (granted if they have guns, you'll need a gun to defeat them).
The game relies heavily on melee combat, claiming guns are rare in Hong Kong.
I don't want to spoil the story, but basically you're an undercover cop in the Sun On Yee triad organization, with a foggy revenge plot thrown in. Kinda stumbled across this game, happy I did.
